What is Risk Assessment?
A Risk Assessment is more than a careful examination of the facilities a park provides and work that is carried out that could cause harm to people. The aim to make sure that no one gets hurt or becomes ill. A Risk Assessment makes an informal judgement as to whether reasonable precautions have been taken to prevent harm.
Risks Assessments are the first step of the process to manage safety, identifying the risks and therefore where precautions are required. They should be used to guide safety documentation, in particular to write simple procedures for staff on how to work safely.
There are five key steps to be taken when completing any Risk Assessment:
- Look for the hazards.
- Decide who might be harmed and how.
- Evaluate the Risks and decide whether existing precautions are adequate or whether more needs to be done.
- Record your findings.
- Review your assessment and revise if necessary.
